The St John’s College Foundation is delighted to announce that the XI Warden of St John’s College (1982-2012), the Reverend Canon Professor John Morgan, will be guest of honour and speaker at a gala fundraising dinner being held on Saturday, 2 June 2018.
It has been five years since John Morgan departed for England. Much water has passed under the bridge since then but it is only fitting that, upon his return to Australia, we focus upon building the John Morgan Awards. There are currently five students benefitting from his legacy and we would like to grow that number to ten.
The Foundation, in conjunction with the College, will hold the Gala Fundraising Dinner to welcome John Morgan back to the College for the first time since his departure in 2013, and subsequent self-exile to England. Additionally, through ticket sales, we will raise funds for the John Morgan Awards. Approximately 80% of the ticket price will be a tax-deductible donation to the Foundation.
These awards were established in 2013 by John Morgan following his retirement as Warden of the College. He contributed significantly to the development and prosperity of the College. The awards are valued at between $5,000 and $9,000 each, and are awarded to multiple students who maintain a GPA of at least 5 and who demonstrate financial need.
This much-anticipated event affords us the opportunity for another incomparable after-dinner speech (or sermon – the line is not always clear). So call up some old, or new, College friends and arrange a group and come along to enjoy an evening with John Morgan.
Gala Dinner entertainment will be provided in the form of short musical performances by current members of the College.
The dinner will be both a joyous occasion for the wider College community and at the same time support deserving students.
Bookings can be made online and will close on Friday 18th May. Seats are limited so please book promptly to avoid missing out.
