The Ron Marks Award is a financial bursary named in honour of the Reverend Ron Marks. Revd. Marks was appointed Director of Studies at St John’s College in 1976 and he was Acting Warden of the College for parts of 1980 and 1981. In 1980 he became the non-stipendiary Vice-Warden of the College.

Award Value:
25% of base accommodation fees per recipient p.a.
Example: if base accommodation fees are $22,000 p.a. – 10% = $2,200, 15% = $3,300, 25% = $5,500 (subject to change annually)

Duration:
1 year

APPLICATIONS OPEN:
14th of August (for awards to be held the following year)

APPLICATIONS CLOSE:
Continuing/returning students:  4pm on Tuesday, 10 September 2024
New/First Year students:  4pm on Tuesday, 10 December 2024

Eligibility
  • A recipient must be able to demonstrate financial difficulties associated with attendance at The University of Queensland
  • A recipient must be a full-time, undergraduate student of The University of Queensland or have been offered a place at The University of Queensland
  • A recipient must be undertaking her/his first undergraduate degree program
  • A recipient must remain a full-time student at The University of Queensland for the period of the award
  • A recipient must have been accepted into St John’s College and must be a resident of the College for the period of the award
  • A recipient must make satisfactory progress towards the completion of her/his degree program
  • A recipient must contribute the balance of the College fees
About The Awards
  • This award is offered annually
  • It is offered on the basis of demonstrated financial difficulties associated with attending The University of Queensland
  • It is offered as remission of fees over two semesters of one academic year
  • The award will be reviewed annually and provided a recipient continues to be able to demonstrate financial hardship, it may be renewed
