By the end of 1911, the College was incorporated within the University of Queensland, which admitted its first students in that year. Beginning with just four, and then five students, the College had mixed economic fortunes until it moved from Kangaroo Point to the University’s new site at St Lucia. It was sustained in its earliest decades by the personal donations of the founder.

Venture of Faith is a memento of the College’s first century. It is also a contribution to the history of tertiary education in Queensland and Australia, set against the broader canvas of social and political change.

The story of the College – of its students and their life, the contributions of the wardens, and the struggles to maintain the College and to grow it into its present flourishing state – is treated both descriptively and analytically. It draws on a wide range of sources.

Read more about the fascinating history of the College, its students, wardens and the challenges and successes that are our story.
