New Organ Recital Series at St John’s

As a new venture in collaboration with the UQ School of Music, the College is hosting a series of four concerts featuring the Tickell organ in the Chapel.  The organ was installed in 2011.

Each concert will feature a guest organist of national repute, soloists or an ensemble from the UQ School of Music, and one or more St John’s students.

At our first concert on 24 March, our guest organist was Dr Robert Boughen OBE, formerly UQ organist who played at graduations in Mayne Hall (among many other roles).  He appeared with the UQ Chamber Choir and St John’s music student, James Tudball (violin).

Our next concert is on Saturday, 12 May 2018, at 3.00pm.

Michael Fulcher, organist and director of music at Christ Church, South Yarra, will be our guest organist. Patrick Nolan from UQ School of Music will curate flute performances, and Chloe Arentz, UQ Bachelor of Music student, will sing accompanied by Mr Michael van der Mark, former student of the College and Organ Scholar at St John’s Cathedral. Afternoon tea will be served on the Chapel Lawns after the performance.  All are welcome!
