In 2021, this scholarship was established by Dr Roger Grigg and Mr Greg O’Meara whose families have been involved, and continue to be, with St John’s College since the late 1940s when the College was located at Kangaroo Point. To date, three generations of both families, immediate and extended, have been connected with the College, holding various executive positions at the College.

$10,000 over 1 year, ($5,000/ semester)

About The Award
How To Apply
- A recipient must be able to demonstrate financial difficulties associated with attendance at The University of Queensland
- A recipient must be from a rural or regional area of Queensland (no closer than 100km from metropolitan Brisbane)
- A recipient must have been offered a full-time undergraduate place or returning as a second year at The University of Queensland
- A recipient must be undertaking their first undergraduate degree program
- A recipient must have been accepted into St John’s College and must be a resident of the College for the period of the award
- A recipient must remain a full time student at The University of Queensland for the period of the award
- A recipient must have reasonable academic ability but need not be in the highest academic grade
- A recipient must show capability to successfully complete the degree program undertaken
- A recipient must contribute to the balance of the College fees.
- This award is offered on the basis of demonstrated financial difficulties associated with attending The University of Queensland
- It is offered annually to a student from rural or regional Queensland, commencing their undergraduate studies or returning for a second year
- The amount of the award is $10,000 which is above 25% of base accommodation fees
- The amount is offered as remission of College fees over two semesters of one academic year
- The award will be reviewed annually and provided a recipient continues to be able to demonstrate financial hardship and maintains satisfactory academic progress and contribution to College, it may be renewed.
Applicants for the scholarship must apply to the Warden of St John’s College by the closing date using the St John’s College Award Application Form.
