This award has been established by Matthew Blackwell who was President of the Student Club in 1993. Matthew is also a former director of the St John’s College Foundation Board. Matthew has a keen interest in leadership and the development of potential leaders.

The award is designed to recognise and support a student with leadership potential who can also demonstrate limited financial means.

Award Value:
Currently $1,500 – to provide remission of costs for the awardee to attend a course/conference centred on leadership

Continuing/returning students:  4pm on Tuesday, 10 September 2024
New/First Year students:  4pm on Tuesday, 10 December 2024

Eligibility
  • A recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate student at The University of Queensland
  • A recipient must have demonstrated leadership potential and experience that can be deployed with the College community
  • A recipient must be in residence at St John’s College for the academic year in which the award is received
  • A recipient must remain a full time student for the year in which the award is made
  • A recipient must make satisfactory progress towards the completion of her/his undergraduate/postgraduate degree program
About The Awards
  • This award is offered annually
  • Only one award may be made in any one year
  • It is to be awarded to a student going into third or fourth year who demonstrated leadership potential and can demonstrate financial need
  • The award is to be used to promote study in the field of leadership
  • The award is to provide remission of costs for the awardee to attend a course/conference/meeting centred on leadership
  • The course/conference will be selected by the recipient but must be approved by the Warden
  • The awardee may be offered mentoring sessions with Matthew Blackwell (one per semester)
  • The award is for a period of one academic year only
