This award was established in honour of James (Jim) Warner who was a student at the College (1956-61). He was the Chaplain of the College (1968-71) and Acting Warden in 1971. He was subsequently an active member of the College Council.
The award has been known as the James Warner Organ Scholarship (1999-2012) and was also awarded as the James Warner Scholarship for Musical Performance (2012-2013).

$3,500 over 1 year ($1,750/semester)

Eligibility
  • A recipient must be a full-time student, or have been offered a place at a recognised university, including: The University of Queensland, QUT or the  Conservatorium of Music
  • A recipient must demonstrate outstanding musical ability with preference to be given to student seeking or receiving organ tuition
  • A recipient must be in residence at St John’s College for the academic year in which the award is received
  • A recipient must remain a full time student at his/her university for the year in which the scholarship is made
  • Where appropriate, a recipient will be expected to perform at College Chapel services and at other functions during the year
  • Where a recipient is not an organ scholar, s/he will be expected to contribute to other College cultural performances
  • A recipient must make satisfactory progress towards the completion of her/his degree program
  • A recipient must contribute the balance of the College fees

  • This award is offered annually
  • It is to be awarded to an undergraduate or postgraduate student seeking entry to St John’s College
  • A recipient must demonstrate outstanding musical ability with preference to be given to student seeking or receiving organ tuition
  • The amount of the award is currently $3,500
  • It is offered as remission of College fees over two semesters of one academic year; it does not include the cost of music tuition
  • The award is for a period of one academic year only but may be extended if a recipient commits to remaining in College for a further year and s/he continues to meet the other eligibility criteria
