The Fairfax Award was established as the first of the College’s bursaries in 1993. It was a gift of the Fairfax Family Trust. Currently, it supports two students from rural areas of Australia to attend St John’s College.

Award Value:
$1,400 over 1 year ($700/semester)

Duration:
1 year (The award will extend for the period of each recipients’ undergraduate degree program (3-4 years) subject to satisfactory progress)

APPLICATIONS OPEN:
1st October (for awards to be held the following year)

APPLICATIONS CLOSE:
Continuing/Returning Students: 4.00pm, Friday 16th November 2018
New/Fresher Students: 4.00pm, Friday 18th January 2019

Eligibility
  • A recipient must be from a rural area of Australia
  • A recipient must be able to demonstrate financial difficulties associated with attendance at The University of Queensland
  • A recipient must be a full-time, undergraduate student of The University of Queensland or have been offered a place at The University of Queensland
  • A recipient must be undertaking her/his first undergraduate degree program
  • A recipient must remain a full-time student at The University of Queensland for the period of the award
  • A recipient must have been accepted into St John’s College and must be a resident of the College for the period of the award
  • A recipient must make satisfactory progress towards the completion of her/his degree program
  • A recipient must contribute the balance of the College fees
About The Awards
  • This award is offered annually
  • It is available to up to two students from rural areas of Australia to attend The University of Queensland as undergraduates while residing at St John’s College
  • This award is offered on the basis of demonstrated financial difficulties associated with attending The University of Queensland
  • The amount of the award is currently $1,400 per recipient. It is offered as remission of fees over two semesters of one academic year
  • The award will extend for the period of each recipients’ undergraduate degree program (3 – 4 years) subject to satisfactory progress
  • One award is available for an undergraduate student enrolled in 2015 at The University of Queensland and currently in residence at St John’s College
  • A further award is available for a student commencing her/his undergraduate studies at The University of Queensland in 2016 and seeking entry to St John’s College
